A Few More Checks On The List

The last two days have been busy getting local police clearance letters. I went by myself yesterday because I am just so anxious and ready to get this stuff done! I had a little trouble finding the place. I called and got an address, but I didn't do a search on google maps. Instead, I remembered that the lady who took our fingerprints the day before said something about getting the letters nearby and something about behind the building we were in. So, I went to Marietta Square again and thought I was getting really lucky finding a parking spot relatively close by. Then I walked to the building we were in before and then around it, searching for the address I got from the person on the phone. To make a long story short, where I was looking and where I was supposed to be were two different places. SO, I asked and found out I wasn't supposed to be on the Square, but down the road instead. I finally found the place! Whew!

So, once inside... hurdle two. They didn't want to give me two originally copies of my background check. They just wanted to give me one and then have me make a copy. Even after I kept telling them I specifically needed two. $30 later, they gave me two originals. Then they didn't want to notarize them because it says at the bottom they don't have to be notarized because of some House Bill. In fine print, however, it says they will notarize them if asked. So, nicely, I asked again. Finally, after what seemed like days, I was outta there! But not before breaking into a profuse sweat worrying that the cop (who was actually the notary) was going to arrest me for some unknown warrant I have. Don't laugh! It almost happened to my friend.

The cops showed up at her door one night and tried to arrest her for a warrant she didn't even know she had! Her purse was stolen earlier in the year and someone has been using her ID to cash bad checks in Atlanta. A bank issued a warrant for a check "SHE" cashed there. Of course, she didn't write the check or know anything about it! I mean, come on! She's a 2nd grade teacher and a vacation bible school teacher! (I have to add that because that's what she kept trying to tell the cops as they tried to arrest her! Bless her baby heart!)

AND the police station I was at getting my background check was the same one that sent to the police to her house. So, I started thinking "God, what if I have a warrant and this is when I find out about it!" I started sweating and when the lady called me to the window, with the officer standing beside her, I was soooooo scared! But then, I saw "NO RECORDS FOUND" stamped in red across the bottom and realized HE was the notary so I felt much better. Also, cranking the A/C down to 60 degrees with all the vents in the car pointed at me helped, too.

Needless to say, when I took Grady back to get his today, things went MUCH smoother! I knew exactly what to say and we were in and out in a matter of minutes. I hope Vuong has the same success when he goes. That might be after work Friday. I'll keep ya posted.

Until next time....
